AP04 - Building materials

General
The Building Materials Decree (Bouwstoffenbesluit) was published in the Bulletin of Acts and Decrees (Staatsblad) no. 567 (30-11-1995). The Building Materials Decree has been fully in effect in the Netherlands since 1 January 1999. Until 1 July 1999, there was a transitional period; from that date the Building Materials Decree has been applied definitively. The intention of the Building Materials Decree was to achieve several environmental objectives:
• Protection of soil and surface water.
• The use of residual materials suitable for re-use, which would also reduce the need for dumping space.
• Reduction in the use of so-called primary building materials.

Accreditations
In addition to accreditation according to the EN-45000 series, a laboratory that conducts research within the framework of the Building Materials Decree must have accreditation according to AP04 (assessed in the Netherlands by the Dutch Accreditation Council). ALcontrol Laboratories is accredited for the following packages:

SG1: Standard package sample pretreatment and determination of soil composition (NVN/NEN 5740)
SG2: Addition to SG1 with other standardized methods of soil composition ()
SB1: Standard package sample pretreatment and determination of building material composition (no soil)
SB2: Addition to SB1 with other standardized methods of building material composition (no soil)(
)
U1: Leaching (column test) unshaped building materials and soil, including eluate analysis
U2: Leaching (diffusion or tank test) shaped building materials and soil, including eluate analysis

(*): partly conducted by ALcontrol Laboratories and partly outsourced.

Capacity To process the large number of samples supplied, ALcontrol has a capacity of 75 samples a day for composition tests. ALcontrol has a capacity of 240 columns for leaching tests.

Packaging materials
AP04 stipulates how samples must be taken and how many samples must be delivered. ALcontrol Laboratories provides 7.5L or 1.8L sampling buckets free of charge.

Turn-around times
At the moment, ALcontrol Laboratories has a delivery period of 7 working days for composition tests of soil as well as unshaped building materials. Other analyses have a standard turn around time of 10 to 12 working days. Through constant investment, we are trying to reduce these delivery times and expand the capacity of ALcontrol Laboratories. The delivery time for leaching tests by means of the column test is 25 working days.

AP04-Express
What does this "AP04-Express" service entail? You can have rush tests carried out for the composition of the AP04 samples. You will know the results of your AP04 test within 5 working days. So, if you deliver the samples to our laboratory on Monday, your results will be available the next Monday before 17.00 hours. It couldn’t go any faster!!! A 50% surcharge applies to AP04 express.

AP04-SuperExpress
